Heathrow Airport Terminal 4

Terminals 1, 2 & 3 are all located in the centre of the airport and are within walking distance of each other via underground walkways. Terminal 4 is located on the south side of the airport, and can be reached from Terminals 1, 2 & 3 via the free inter-terminal transfer service on the Heathrow Express train, which takes approximately eight minutes.


Opened in 1986, Terminal 4 is used by 6 airlines and handles approximately 14.2 million passengers each year.


Check-in is located on the first floor of the terminal. The roof of Terminal 4's short-term car park is on the same level giving passengers direct access.


  • International flights - check in 3 hours prior to departure

  • European flights - check in 2 hours prior to departure

  • Domestic flights - check in 1 hour prior to departure

Boarding usually begins around 45 minutes before departure.


Arrivals is located on the ground floor of the terminal. You can check arrival times online here here.


International connections do not need to go through Immigrations or Customs but all International to Domestic connections do. Domestic to International connections can use the special Immigration check points if baggage is through- checked.


Baggage storage is available from Terminal 4. Open from 05.30 - 23.00 at a cost of £6.50 per item per day. Each item is security checked. You can contact Excess Baggage on +44 (0)208 745 4599.


Terminal 4 Departures:

Bureaux de Change: Three Bureaux de Change. Thomas Cook open 05:30 - 23:00 and Travelex open 05:30 - 22:00 in the middle of the building. There is an additional Travelex near the Post Office at the left of the building.


Cash Dispensers: Abbey Link ATM at the main Travelex Bureau de Change and a Barclays machines near the small Travelex beside Costa Coffee. They accept most international and domestic cards.


Food and Drink: A self-service restaurant for meals and snacks and a bar are located on the mezzanine floor between Departures and Arrivals. There is a cafe bar at the left end of the terminal and a coffee cart towards the right.


Information Desk: The Departures information desk is Airside through security and passport control. There is also an info desk downstairs in Arrivals.


Left Luggage: None in the Departures area, nearest is downstairs on Arrivals level on left hand side. Cost £6.50 per item per 24 hours. Open 05:30 - 23:00.


Luggage Trolleys: Free, available on forecourt outside the terminal, and occasionally in the car park.


Pay Phones: Throughout the terminal, some with fax facilities.


Postal Services: Post Office open 09:00 - 17:30 Mon-Sat and 09:00 - 13:00 Sun. At left hand end of floor next to Costa Coffee


An additional mailbox and stamp machine is opposite check-in desk 38. There is a mail bin Airside just after you go through security.


Shopping: A small selection of outlets is available on the Departures level. A much wider choice at duty-free prices available Airside after passport controls.


Toilets: Three toilet areas. There is a baby change facility in the toilets between check-in desks 26/28, and disabled facilities near the Concorde/First Class check-in area.


Terminal 4 Arrivals:

Bureau de Change: Three Bureaux de Change - Thomas Cook, open 24 hours, and Travelex, open 24 hours are located in the middle of the floor. There is an additional Travelex towards the left luggage counter.


Buses: Depart from the Arrivals forecourt.


Car Hire: Major companies have desks in the Arrivals area.


Cash Dispensers: There are Barclays and Link ATMs beside the Thomas Cook Bureau de Change. They accept international and domestic cards.


Food and Drink: Cafe bar serving light refreshments only on Arrivals floor. More choice upstairs on mezzanine floor


Hotels: There is a hotel desk near the Information desk.


Information Desk: Airport enquiries desk towards the left hand side of the floor.


Left Luggage: On the extreme left hand side of the terminal open 05:30 - 23:00. Cost £6.50 per item per 24 hours.


Luggage Trolleys: In Baggage Reclaim - plentiful and free.


Pay Phones: In Baggage Reclaim.


Parking: Access to the short term car park is directly across the terminal forecourt. Bus transfers to the Business and long term car parks are available on the forecourt.


Postal Services: Mailbox and stamp machine near the Information desk.


Shopping: There is only a small news shop in the Arrivals area. For a better choice go upstairs to Departures.


Taxi: Taxi rank on Arrivals forecourt.


Toilets: At both ends of Baggage Reclaim - on the left has facilities for disabled users.


Train: The Heathrow Express station is on the right of the Arrivals floor beyond WH Smith. The Terminal 4 London Underground station for services to London is below the Arrivals level. Follow the signs.


Terminal 4 Airside:

Bureaux de Change: Four Bureaux de Change - two Thomas Cook, open 05:00 to 22:00, and two Travelex, open 05:30 to 21:30.


Information Desk:There is an information desk immediately in front of you after you go through security and passport control.


Pay Phones: Available throughout the lounge.


Postal Services: Mail box immediately after you go through security and passport control.


Toilets: Throughout the lounge. There is a toilet area with disabled and baby change facilities as you enter from passport control.
