Heathrow Airport Terminal 1

Terminals 1, 2 & 3 are all located in the centre of the airport and are within walking distance of each other via underground walkways. Terminal 4 is located on the south side of the airport, and can be reached from Terminals 1, 2 & 3 via the free inter-terminal transfer service on the Heathrow Express train, which takes approximately eight minutes.

Terminal 1 handles all domestic flights, most UK airline departures to Europe plus Aer Lingus, Alliance, Cyprus Airways, EL AL, Finnair, Icelandair, Virgin Express and South African Airways flights.

Check-in desks for international flights are located in the middle and on the right of the concourse.


  • International flights - check in 3 hours prior to departure

  • European flights - check in 2 hours prior to departure

  • Domestic flights - check in 1 hour prior to departure

Boarding usually begins around 45 minutes before departure

Terminal 1 Departures:

Bureaux de Change: Two Bureaux de Change in retail shopping area
Travelex open: 05:30 to 22:00
ICE open: 06:00 to 21:00.


Cash Dispensers:None on Departures level. Nearest are on the ground floor near the International Arrivals Meeting Point.


Food and Drink, Meals, light refreshments and bars: on the mezzanine level above the shopping area.


There is a self service restaurant and a burger bar on the Departures level near the domestic gates.


Information Desk: None on Departures level. Nearest in the Arrivals area on the lower floor.


Left Luggage Located; on a mid floor between Arrivals and Departures. Access by stairs, lift/elevator or up- escalator. Open 06:00 - 23:00, all items £6.50 per day (or part day).


Luggage Trolleys: Free and plentiful, available on forecourt and occasionally in the Short Stay car parks.


Pay Phones : In various areas, some with fax facility.


Postal Services: Mail boxes in Departures area by the entry doors in the middle of the terminal. The nearest Post Office is in Terminal 2.


Shopping: There is a limited range of outlets on the Departures level. For a wider selection at better prices go Airside to the duty free outlets.


Toilets : With baby care, showers and disabled facilities near Domestic Departures gate.


Additional toilets near International Departures security area.


Terminal 1 Arrivals:

Bureau de Change: There is a Travelex Bureaux de Change in the Baggage Reclaim area (open 05:30 to 22:00) and one in the Arrivals meeting area (open same times).


Cash Dispensers: Near the International Arrivals meeting point.


Food and Drink : Heathrow Airport Light refreshments only on the Arrivals level.


Information Desk: General airport enquiries desk located in the middle of the floor towards the back wall.


Left Luggage: Located on a mid floor between Arrivals and Departures. Access by stairs, lift/elevator or up- escalator. Open 06:00 - 23:00, all items £6.50 per day (or part day).


Luggage Trolleys: - plentiful and free in Baggage Reclaim.


Pay Phones: In Baggage Reclaim and throughout the terminal.


Postal Services: Mail box and stamp machine beside the Information desk in the main Arrivals area. Nearest Post Office is in Terminal 2.


Toilets: In Baggage Reclaim with disabled and baby change facilities. Also at Domestic Arrivals end of the building.


Terminal 1 Airside:

Bureaux de Change: Two Bureaux de Change, Thomas Cook (open earliest to latest flight) and ICE (open 06:00 - 21:00).


Food and Drink: Selection of catering outlets includes table and self service restaurants, snacks, a seafood bar and two bars.


Pay Phones: In various areas. New table top payphones in the additional seating area past Café Select


Postal Services: There is a transparent mail bin as you clear passport control and enter the Airside lounge.


Toilets: Toilets with disabled and baby changing facilities are available at each end of the lounge.
