BA / AA discuss slot concessions for EU deal approval
30.01.10
BA and American Airlines are in talks with European regulators about giving up slots at Heathrow to win antitrust immunity for their alliance, the Wall Street Journal reports, citing two people familiar with the matter.
However, a US spokesman for BA confirmed that the airline is in discussions with the European Commission regarding its application for antitrust immunity, but could not elaborate on the specific detail. He said: ‘BA is very hopeful that we won't have to give up any slots.'
BA, American and Iberia are seeking approval from European and American regulators to operate a joint venture on certain routes across the Atlantic, collaberating on schedules, fares and frequent flyer programmes. BA and Amercian have said in the past that they do not need to give up the slots in order to win regulatory approval.
