BA cabin crew ‘desperate’ for dispute to end, but ‘nil’ chance new offer will be accepted
28.06.10
BA cabin crew have told news website ABTN they are ‘desperate’ for the long running dispute with the airline to end. However, Unite said last night there is little hope of a breakthrough, despite postponing a strike ballot. The Union put off tomorrow's vote after BA made a new offer late last week.
ABTN reports that cabin crew have said that while they are reluctant to abandon their union, they want the two sides to hammer out a settlement as quickly as possible. But Unite said that while a new offer from BA made last week was worthy of being put to members, there was ‘nil’ chance of it recommending the deal.
BA guaranteed basic salary rises from 2011 but did not offer to re-instate discounted flights for crew who went on strike or stop disciplinary action against around sixty hard liners, some of whom have already been dismissed. Unite's Tony Woodley said yesterday that this meant any deal was ‘uncertain’.
