BA strike delayed during talks
24.02.10
BA passengers face confusion after its cabin crew union said it would not reveal strike dates after the vote for industrial action announced on Monday. There had been an expectation that Unite would announce details of when and for how long the workers would strike at a mass meeting planned for tomorrow. However, a spokesman for the union said they would not announce strike dates while it was negotiating with the management of BA.
The spokesman said: ‘Negotiations are ongoing. We do not want to create any sense that we are not serious about these discussions, and announcing strike dates would do that. We will only announce strike dates when all other options have been exhausted.'
Over the next few days a series of meetings will be held between the union and BA management before Unite decides whether to set strike dates, which would hit the airline hard in the busy run-up to Easter. While travel experts have applauded Unite's willingness to talk, they said it was frustrating for passengers to be kept in the dark, creating confusion and uncertainty.
