BA will not face Easter strike
21.01.10
BA cabin crew will not striking over the Easter holiday in their dispute over working conditions, Unite said. The union's plans for a 12-day Christmas strike that would have disrupted travel for one million people were attacked by passengers before a judge declared the strike vote void. The judge also warned against future strikes timed to cause maximum passenger disruption.
A second strike ballot will be held from January 25 until February 22, with the union then needing to give at least 7 days notice of a strike. This offered the prospect of a strike over the very busy Easter period. However, a spokesman for the union said: ‘We will not call strike action over the Easter holiday. We are making this announcement now so that families can plan their travel arrangements with confidence.’
However, a BA spokesman responded: ‘According to Unite’s ballot timetable, it is threatening the travel plans of families and business people from March 1. Assurances about an unspecified strike free Easter holiday period will be of little comfort to them.’
