BA to train baggage handlers / check-in staff as strike busting crew
19.01.10
British Airways boss Willie Walsh has called on its baggage handlers and check-in agents to volunteer to be retrained as cabin crew to prepare for a potential strike, the Guardian reports. In a letter to the airline's 38,000 staff, Mr Walsh offered the opportunity to become ‘volunteer cabin crew,’ the newspaper reports.
Mr Walsh wrote: ‘I am asking for volunteers to back BA by training to work alongside cabin crew who choose not to support a strike, so we are ready to keep our customers flying as much as we possibly can if this strike goes ahead.' A spokeswoman for the CAA said BA staff could work as cabin crew if they are trained by accredited trainers.
