BA has flown more than 100 ground staff from the US to train as cabin crew in case there are further strikes at the airline, the Mirror reports. The volunteers - BA ground crew from Miami - arrived two weeks ago for training at BA's Training Centre in Cranebank, near Heathrow, in case of further strikes from the end of August are announced following a current vote on a pay offer from the airline.
The newspaper says that 'the tactic shows how far the airline are willing to go in their fight with cabin crew' in the 18 month dispute over pay and staffing. A 'BA insider' told the newspaper: ‘Training the Americans is costing a fortune but the volunteers see it as a chance for an extended holiday in the UK.’
A BA spokesman said: ‘Since February we have encouraged staff to train for volunteer roles, including cabin crew, in our effort to fly as many customers as we can during industrial action. Last month, we extended this offer to include US staff.'
