BA parent report June passenger boost
07.07.11
BA and Iberia parent company International Airlines Group (IAG) saw premium passenger numbers jump by more than a quarter in June compared to the same month last year. Its economy passenger numbers grew by an impressive 6.7%, but combined domestic traffic in the UK and Spain saw a drop of more than 15%.
The numbers need to be considered in the context of threatened strikes by BA cabin crew and a network restructuring in Spain by Iberia. IAG said in a statement: ‘The underlying revenue trends are in line with previous months. Demand is continuing to show firm underlying growth, particularly in the long-haul premium segment.’
The overall number of passengers carried by the two airlines in the month was up 3.8% to 4.525 million, with routes to North America, Asia/Pacific and Latin America, and the Caribbean enjoying the strongest growth.
