6.2% increase in BA passenger traffic

British Airways parent company IAG reported a 3.5% increase in traffic for July measured in revenue passenger kilometres. However, the actual number of passengers decreased 2.7% to 5m. BA passenger traffic rose by 6.2%, with Iberia’s falling by more than 2%.
IAG, which was formed by the merger between Iberia and BA, was boosted by 10.4% growth in passengers in Latin America, a 11.5% rise to Asia and a 7% rise to the important North American market. Domestic traffic in the UK and Spain, however, dropped by 21.5%. Traffic to Africa, the Middle East and the southern Asia was down 5.5% after recent problems in the regions.
Premium traffic grew at a faster rate than economy traffic - up by 14.2%, indicating renewed strength in the business travel market. IAG also saw its passenger load factor – the number of full seats per plane – inch up by 0.6 percentage points to 85.7%.
