Swissport cargo strike threat lifted
04.05.11
The threat of a strike by cargo staff at Heathrow Airport in a row over agency staff and terms and conditions has been lifted after a deal was agreed. A spokesman for the Unite union said its members at ground services company Swissport had unanimously voted to accept offers on the issues relating to the use of agency staff and also the introduction of new terms and conditions.
Local Unite organiser Kevin Hall said: ‘We are delighted to have reached an agreement with Swissport. Strike action has been avoided, however, this dispute could have been settled ages ago. It is a shame that it took a strike ballot, overwhelmingly supported by our members at the company, to get this agreement in place.’
