Second term for BAA chairman
04.07.10
Sir Nigel Rudd is to stay on for a second 3 year term as chairman of BAA, the Independent reports. He took on the role at the UK airports operator in September 2007, and has overseen a troubled period including the completion and subsequent failure of Terminal 5, the sale of Gatwick, the battle with the competition commission over the sale of two other airports, and the ultimately blocked attempt to build a third runway.
Sir Nigel said in an interview he will stay on for a second-term, adding: ‘It is a fascinating company that still has much work to do in upgrading the other [Heathrow] terminals and making sure its stays one of the world's leading airports.'
On Heathrow's expansion plans, he said: ‘BAA accepts the Government's decision to stop the third runway.’ However, privately the BAA chairman believes the Government will soon realise it has made a mistake as Heathrow is losing out at as an international hub to Schiphol and Paris: ‘It's already happening,’ he told the newspaper.
