Lufthansa work with BMI on long term business plan
01.09.11
Lufthansa is working with BMI's management to develop a long term business plan that will return the UK airline to profitability, ATW reports.
Lufthansa Group Airline chief officer Stefan Lauer told ATW that BMI had been affected by the North African / Middle East crises as well as weak UK demand. It reported a €63 million first-quarter operating loss, which followed an operating loss of €145 million in 2010, its first full year as a Lufthansa Group airline.
Mr Lauer said that Lufthansa Group management is working with BMI to identify a business plan. He said that the BMI’s Heathrow slots are valuable, but added: ‘although these slots are a real asset, slots alone don’t make a business plan. There must be a long-term solution.’
