Big fall in BA sales on strike fears
01.03.10
As BA and the Unite trade union enter a critical week of talks it has been revealed that bookings for the airline's flights have plummeted in recent weeks because of the threat of strike action. Price comparison website travelsupermarket said the number of inquiries about BA flights has fallen by a third since the union revealed its 12,000 cabin crew had voted in favour of strikes.
Business travellers, the key customer group for BA, in particular have been forced to decide whether or not to remain loyal to the airline amid the uncertainty caused by the threat of industrial action. Many are reported to be switching to other airlines to avoid the threat of disruption to their plans, while some BA Executive Club cardholders are said to be redeeming air miles to fly on partner airlines. Travel management companies - who book flights on behalf of business passengers - are also reported to be switching clients to alternative airlines.
